Balancing Health and Costs
Many people in this country choose to forego having health insurance coverage for themselves and their families. Most of the time, this is because the costs associated with health insurance are often thought of as beyond the monetary capabilities of those Americans who need it most. At what point, however, do the benefits associated with having health insurance outweigh the budgetary strain that would accompany health insurance coverage?
Although monthly insurance premiums can often seem like a lot of money being taken away from your family, the benefits of having that coverage far outweigh the downsides. If you become ill or are in a serious accident, out of pocket medical expenses can easily run more than $20,000. Without health insurance, all of that would need to literally come out of your pocket. Suppose, also, for a moment, that it was your child instead who was ill. Would you have the money to take care of him or her like needed?
In addition, with proper medical coverage, the stress that is normally felt during a visit to the doctor or dentist will disappear. How much the visit will cost will no longer be the most important question you need to ask. You co-payment will only be a minimum amount of money up front. You will be able to instead focus on receiving the care and treatment you and your loved ones deserve.
There are currently thousands of people in this country who are not covered by medical insurance. Most of them can’t afford it, but they really can’t afford to be without it either. Although it is difficult to balance the cost of medical insurance with other more pressing expenses, at some point, you must decide that the preservation of your good health is worth the price.
